What You’ll Do

  • Monitor Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer developments affecting physician payment, coding, billing, coverage, prior authorization, and quality reporting.

  • Respond to member questions and develop practical coding and reimbursement resources, including AANEM’s annual coding guide, FAQs, articles, and alerts.

Coordinate Regulatory and Professional-Standards Initiatives

  • Track deadlines and coordinate internal review, approval, and submission of regulatory responses.
  • Support the development and maintenance of evidence-based guidelines, consensus statements, professional standards, and related practice resources.

Support CPT and RUC Activities

  • Serve as the primary staff resource for AANEM’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) activities.
  • Prepare research, code applications, survey materials, and briefing documents for physician advisors.
  • Attend meetings as assigned and support work related to code development, valuation, payment, and implementation.

Manage Committee Projects and Communications

  • Serve as staff liaison to the Practice Issues Review Panel, associated task forces, and the Recognition for Fellowships Committee.
  • Coordinate literature reviews, document development, stakeholder review, manuscript preparation, and publication timelines.
  • Manage fellowship-recognition applications, applicant communications, committee review materials, and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with staff and physician volunteers to deliver clear member communications and maintain accurate committee records and Board materials.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in health policy, reimbursement, coding, billing, regulatory affairs, health information management, medical association management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physician coding and billing, reimbursement policy, payer coverage policies, or Medicare payment policy.
  • Experience analyzing regulations and drafting regulatory comments.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, practical guidance.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with physician leaders, volunteers, members, and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based project management or database systems.

Preferred

  • A relevant coding, reimbursement, health-information, or policy credential, such as CPC, CCS, CMRS, or RHIA.
  • Experience with CPT, RUC, the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, commercial payer policies, quality reporting, or physician-practice reimbursement.
  • Experience supporting physician committees, volunteer leaders, or professional medical associations.
